THE WICKED FATHER (CHAPTER 3)
After weeks, Okon became worried. He hadn’t seen Okeke. He decided to visit.
When he got there, the house was quiet. No one answered him. Then he saw the goà t.
The way the goà t looked at him… the way it cried…
Something felt wrong.
As Okon moved closer, Okeke’s father suddenly appeared.
“Welcome, sir,” Okon greeted politely.
“Good afternoon Okon, how are you and what are you looking for?
“Please sir, where is Okeke? I haven’t seen him in weeks.”
“Oh that? didn’t he tell you?” the man liéd. “He travelled to Imo State to stay with my brother.”
Okon nodded but his heart was not settled. He didn't tell me he was going to travel actually.
I know, but it was just urgency, so my brother came and carry him here. I'm sure when he settles, he will call you.
Okon left, but instead of going home, he hid in the bush.
Soon, he saw the man talking to the goà t.
That was when Okon understood what was going on.
He ran home and told his parents, but they refused to help.
“He is his son,” they said. “Mind your business.”
But Okon did not give up.
The next day, he met some missionaries praying in the street. He told them everything and led them to the compound and hid somewhere and watched everything.
When they arrived, Okeke’s father was doing his normal rituals in the shrine.
“What are you doing in my compound?” he shouted immediately he saw them.
Greetings sir, “We come in peace,” one missionary said. “We are servants of Christ.”
“Does this look like a church?” the man shouted Angrily.
They began to pray not minding the man or his threà ts.
The man got very angry and tried to strike them—but nothing happened. He strike and strike again, yet nothing was happening.
Fear entered his heart.
“Who are you people?” he asked.
“We are God’s creatures and you can't harm us, they replied.
One of them looked at the goat.
“What is inside this goat?”he asked looking at Okeke's father suspiciously.
Immediately, the man changed Okeke back to human form.
Okon ran out from his hiding place na did at the back of one of the missionaries' backs.
Okeke too didn't waste time, he ran and hid there too.
“I am sorry,” the man said and knelt down. “I surrender to your God.” Okeke and Okon were so surprised.
Papa what did I just hear you say?
The missionaries were so happy for his honesty and they prayed. They destroyed the shrine and cast out all the demons that were in the compound.
Okeke’s father changed.
And from that day, Okeke and Okon became a blessing to their community and they were now fulfilling their dreams to the community.
