MY STEPFATHER SECRETLY SL££PS WITH Me EVERY MIDNIGHT, MY MOM KNOWS

Episode 2

MY STEPFATHER SECRETLY SL££PS WITH Me EVERY MIDNIGHT, MY MOM KNOWS  episode 1

Immediately I heard him whisper my late father’s name, my body went cold.

I wanted to ask him, “What do you want with a dead man?” but my tongue was heavy, like I had swallowed a stone.

Chief Patrick didn’t say another word. He just closed his eyes.

I vowed not to sleep. I wanted to watch him.

I wanted to be sure he didn’t do anything to me.

I watched his hands. I watched his legs.

I watched his body.

He did not move. He did not turn. He did not touch even the tip of my finger.

He just lay there, stiff as a log of wood, facing the ceiling until 4:30 a.m.

Then, just as the cock crew in the distance, he stood up.

He bent down, picked up the black pot, covered it with his white wrapper, and walked out of the room without looking at me.

I sighed in relief. He didn’t touch me. I was safe.

Exhaustion took over, and I dozed off for maybe thirty minutes.

When I woke up at 6:00 a.m., the sun was already shining through the window.

I sat up to stretch my body, but immediately I moved, I felt something wet and uncomfortable between my legs.

I froze.

I looked down.

My heart stopped beating for a second.

There was yoghurt Dr!pp!ng down my l£g§, soaking my nightgown.

It looked exactly like §£m£n.

I touched it with a shaking hand. It was real. It was fresh. And it was plenty.

But how?

I was awake! I watched him! He didn’t touch me.

He didn’t undr£§§ me. He didn’t climb

He just lay there facing the ceiling!

Tears rushed out of my eyes. I felt dirty. I felt...

I rushed to the bathroom and scrubbed my body with sponge and soap until my skin turned red, but the feeling of being vi0l@t£d refused to wash away.

When I finally managed to dress up and go to the dining room, my legs were shaking.

What I saw there made my blood boil.

Chief Patrick was sitting at the head of the table, eating yam and egg sauce.

He looked fresh. He looked younger. His skin was shining like a baby that just finished bathing

But me? I felt drained. I felt like an old woman who had used a hoe to farm a whole acre of land by herself.

My mother was sitting beside him, rubbing his back and laughing like a newly wedded bride.

“Nneka, come and eat,” she said, smiling that her plastic smile.

I walked to the table, but I didn’t sit.

“Mummy,” I called, my voice shaking. “Why did Chief mention Papa’s name last night?”
